Anarchism of-by-for Fools

This is a trilogy of columns: Anarchism of Fools, Anarchism by Fools, and Anarchism for Fools. The original column was published on April 7, 2008. The second part of the trilogy was published on February 1, 2014. And the third installment was published April 1, 2014.

“Anarchism of Fools” introduced the misuse of the term anarchism by capitalists and fascists under the misnomers “anarchist capitalism” and “national anarchism.” “Anarchism by Fools” digs more deeply into the faux libertarianism of “anarchist capitalism.” And “Anarchism for Fools” is an in-depth attack on the crypto-fascism of “national anarchism.” When the trilogy is complete, all three can be accessed by clicking on this link.

The reason for this trilogy is simple. The attempt to transform anarchism into something that it isn’t is bullshit. I have little fondness for anarchism proper, nor do I wish to defend it. But to deliberately create a lie to further scurrilous ideologies, political regimes and social movements is unacceptable. In each case, an attempt is being made by political hucksters to make a sow’s ear out of a silk purse, to invert a common proverb. Only the gullible are fooled.

In addition, I will be experimenting with another general category, Communism of-by-for Fools, which will also encompass various forms of Leninist idiocy.
